Summary
DescriptionParings Wine Bar - fmr Harrington-Lapp-Evans House - Williamsville, New York - 20200811.jpg |
English: Parings Wine Bar, 5893 Main Street, Williamsville, New York, August 2020. Cited as an excellent example of Colonial Revival architecture, the building sports all the classic features of the style, notably a careful vertical symmetry in the façade, a five-rank fenestration pattern, and an entrance framed by a prominent fanlight and sidelights. Meanwhile, the two-story tetrastyle portico, with its wooden Tuscan pilasters, is quite an unusual touch, though also in keeping with Colonial Revivalism. The building was constructed in 1918 as a private residence, and served as such for members of three of Williamsville's most prominent physicians representing different generations of the same family: first for Dr. Richard Harrington (1873-1955), a general practitioner native to Canada who lived in the house with his wife Maud until some time after 1941; then to their daughter and son-in-law Marguerite (1905-2003) and Dr. Lester Lapp (1903-1979), him a dentist and her the longtime president of the Williamsville School Board and a founder of Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, then to their daughter and son in law, Dorothy and Dr. Robert Evans, the latter a dentist who moved in c. 1957 and housed his practice there until his retirement c. 1980. The building continued in use as medical offices for several decades thereafter, but has been home to Parings [sic] Wine Bar since 2009. |
