Summary

Description
English: Strolling through Istanbul, is harsh on this mosque: "It combines elements from Moorish and Turkish, Gothic, Renaissance and Empire styles in a garish rococo hodgepodge". The mosque was built in 1871 for the mother of Sultan Abdül Aziz. It seems to be by the Armenian architects Hagop and Sarkis Balyan, who built some of the late Ottoman palaces along the Bosporus. The complex is an oasis of quiet near Aksaray, one of the busiest points in town.
