Summary

Description

English: The Gallo-Roman pile of Saint-Lary, canton of Jegun, Gers, is located on a hill, facing the village. Property of the State, it is the most interesting in the department, by its niche, although the vault is missing, but especially by its facing in small apparatus of square stones, or in diamonds, or even in hexagons.

We find a good commentary in the Bulletin Monumental volume 63, year 1898, pp 5-68: Article by Philippe Lauzun "General inventory of Gallo-Roman piles in southwestern France and more particularly in the Gers department" which in particular takes up the description made by Adrien Lavergne, vice-president of the Société Historique de Gascogne in Excursion de la Société française d'archéologie dans le département du Gers in 1881, Auch, 1883. Regrettably, the pile deteriorates over time, so the facing is much less present than at that time.

It is listed in the architectural heritage inventory (Mérimée) under the reference PA00094917.
