Summary

Description

English: karst springs, Achaea, Peloponnese. The springs emerge partly from hard and partly from loose sediment, a ground of sandy gravel, well shaded by broad-leaved trees. The water comes from the carbonate Aroania Mountains (1500- 2341 m) and also from joints fed by the katavothren (Greek term for ponors/sinkholes) of the Feneos depression. On a surface of only 30x800 m many tiny outflows result in a remarkable large brook: River Aroanios.
Unfortunately this rare kind of a geotope is not protected at all! No directives, no administrative surveillance! The place is dominated by tourist-commercial interests.

Deutsch: Karstquelle (Achaia, Peloponnes).
