The Vicksburg branch of the Planters' Bank moved to the building built in 1834.In 1836, the directors elected William L. Sharkey as president.Panic of 1837 - Specie Circular issued by U.S. President Andrew JacksonIn 1840, William Vick and A. H. Arthur were appointed commissioners to dissolve the Vicksburg branch of Planters' Bank.In 1842, the Planters' Bank failed during the governorship of Alexander Galatin McNutt and the building went to the directors of Landeau and Menserville Trust.By 1854, the building had been converted into a residence.in 1861, Indiana McRae, the wife of Sheriff William McRae, bought it.In 1863, During the siege of Vicksburg, it was occupied by Colonel Alien Thomas of the 28th LouisianaRegiment and his staff. The building survived the siege undamaged. After the surrender of Vicksburg, the property infront of Planters Hall was used to stack the guns and band instruments of a Tennessee regiment. Tradition says that General William Dennnis, commander of the Illinois Cavalry, made Planters Hall his headquarters.In 1887, Lucy McRae, the daughter of Indiana McRae acquired the property.In 1906, Joe Canizaro bought the property.In 1940s used as an apartment houseIn 1956, the Vicksburg Council of Garden Clubs purchased the property and renamed the building Planters Hall and converted it into a museum open to public for tours duringIt currently is a private residence.the building contains front and rear hallway library, dining, room, remodeled kitchen, music room and parlor, with curved stairway leading upstairs and a wine cellar underneath. The original bank vault with walls 30 inches thick, and hand riveted iron supports is built into the south wall of the kitchen.
