English: Portrait of Madame Augustin Varcollier, née Atala Stamaty, 1855, by Ingres
Atala Varcollier was the daughter of Constantin Stamaty, and appears as a young girl in Ingres' 1818 portrait of her family. Born in Rome in 1803, she was a favourite pupil of Ingres, and executed a number of copies of his drawings and paintings. In 1819 she married Michel-Augustin Varcollier, who eventually rose to become Director of the Beaux-Arts for Paris.
