Description
English: Excerpt from late 19th-early 20th century postcard depicting structure known as "Yankee Dam" near Hawthorne, NY, USA. Created by damming a tributary of the Saw Mill River to prevent British troops from easily using the river valley for military incursions toward Patriot-held terrain to the north. Remained until leveled for construction of Hawthorne circle in mid-1920s.
Date Unknown date; precedes mid-1920s as the earthwork depicted has been replaced by modern highway construction since then
