The monument bears a rather dubious inscription which reads:- This monument was removed from the Bull Ring to this site in July 1950 Clarence Park and reinstated in 1985
A clearer description :- This monument resided in the Bull Ring from 1905 to 1950 when it was re-sited in Clarence Park. In 1985 it was returned to the Bull Ring. In 2009, it was re-sited here in Castrop Rauxel Square.
