| Description |
English: This poster is an artifact of the controversy that raged in
the New York Jewish community in the 1950s and early 1960s, over a proposal to construct an w:eruv in Manhattan. This is a proclamation dated 15 March 1960, signed by 14 prominent New York rabbis, declaring their support for the project, and their intention of authorising the construction unless persuaded otherwise. It was published as a w:handbill or w:poster and circulated in the Jewish community. This was countered on 18 June 1962 by a proclamation of the w:Union of Orthodox Rabbis, signed by five of the most prominent rabbis of the time, banning the project.
