English: Red Castle. This large red sandstone remnant of the castle dominates Lunan Bay below. It was built on top of a hill where stood an earlier fort. The castle is reported to have been constructed by Walter de Berkeley for William the Lion as a defence against Danish raids. Remaining walls are 15th Century and the castle contains a 25 feet deep dungeon.
