Description
English: Monumental brass depicting Sir Bernard Drake (d.1586) formerly affixed to tomb-monument he had erected in memory of his brother-in-law Richard Fortescue (d.1570) in Filleigh Church, North Devon. He kneels toward the right. Arms of Drake of Ash, nr. Musbury are shown in the dexter escutcheon: A wyvern gules. The escutcheon to sinister shows the arms of his wife, Gertrude Fortescue. A matching brass of similar form, from the same monument, depicting Richard Fortescue exists in the same church, kneeling to the left. Richard ffortescue died at Filleghie ye last day of June 1570".
