DescriptionRobshaw & Voelkl Law Offices - fmr Christian Rutt House - Williamsville, New York - 20200807.jpg
English: The law offices of Robshaw & Voelkl PC, 5672 Main Street, Williamsville, New York, August 2020. Built in 1840, this two-story wood-frame house is a good example of vernacular residential architecture of its era, though its symmetrical façade, side-gable roof, and 12-pane sash windows with shutters are suggestive of the Federal style that was nearing the end of its period of popularity at the time. Christian Rutt (1811-1877) was its original owner, a Pennsylvania-born miller who became one of Williamsville's leading citizens of the era - he served as a trustee of the Williamsville Classical Institute beginning in 1853 and also as town highway commissioner - and the house remained in the hands of his descendants through the 1980s. The west annex, containing the main entrance, was a late 20th century addition, but the Classically-inspired treatment framing the door is in keeping with the general architectural character of the house. The law firm of Robshaw & Voelkl, specialized in estate planning, has been its occupant since 1985.
