Summary

Description

Page 68 of brochure Seattle and the Orient (1900). This page includes text plus a photo captioned "Wholesale house of M. & K. Gottstein." The text on page 67 of the same brochure giving their address as 806 Yesler Way is almost certainly erroneous (see, for example, M & K Gottstein in the www.pre-pro.com shotglass database), which gives a much more plausible address of "108 W Yesler Way" (though I don't know about that "W"). Polk's Seattle City Directory 1899 (Polk's Seattle Directory Co., 1899), p. 423 gives the address as 108 Yesler Way and identifies the proprieters as Meyer & Kassel Gottstein.

Signs on building read:

  • "M. & K. Gottstein" (on building and on awning)
  • "Wholesale Liquors and Cigars" (two signs)
  • "R·R·R·R / Roosevelt's Rough Riders' Rye" / "M. & K. Gottstein sole agents"
  • "Sole agents / Pacific Club / for Old Pioneer"
There are some other signs that don't seem to be legible in this photo.
