Richard Fuerst, the commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, and U.S. Marines with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 121 pose for a photo around a F-35B Lightning II with members of the National Diet of Japan at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, June 27, 2019. The Diet is comprised of elected officials in the Japanese government and is comparable to the United States Congress. The tour was hosted in order to display the capabilities of MCAS Iwakuni as a vital part of the U.S.-Japan alliance through providing defensive, air transportation and humanitarian assistance/disaster relief capabilities to the U.S. Indo-Pacific region.
