File:Serine backbone-dependent chi1 rotamer populations.png

Original file (4,123 × 1,501 pixels, file size: 3.75 MB, MIME type: image/png)

Summary

Description
English: The frequency of each chi1 rotamer is dependent on the backbone dihedral angles phi and psi of the Ramachandran plot. At any combination of phi and psi, the frequencies of the three chi1 rotamers sum up to 1.0 (100%). The changes in frequency are caused by steric interactions of the CG1 and CG2 atoms with backbone atoms whose positions are dependent on phi and psi, including the carbonyl carbon of the previous residue, the backbone carbonyl oxygen of the same residue, and the backbone nitrogen of the next residue.
