Summary
DescriptionShare Kitchen & Bar Room - fmr H. S. Smith store et al. - Williamsville, New York - 20200803.jpg |
English: Share Kitchen & Bar Room, 5590 Main Street at East Spring Street, Williamsville, New York, August 2020. Like its neighbor to the east, the former Steinbrenner and Abel meat market/current Ten Thousand Villages store, this building was constructed shortly after 1893 by Alexander Gotwalt and Henry Metz on what was previously the site of the Benjamin Miller estate, is a fine example of the vernacular commercial architecture of its era, and was named a Local Landmark of the Village of Williamsville on that basis in 2014. It's a two-story wood-frame structure with a shed roof, a recessed corner entrance, and a bracketed cornice at the roofline of the Main Street façade suggestive of a modest Italianate or Classical influence whose first occupant was the grocery and drugstore owned by H.S. Smith. Others over the years have included a barbershop (operated by Albert H. Herman), music store, candy shop (J. Binz's in the early 20th century; Lucille Corti Candies from the '30s through the '70s), ice cream parlor (Sweet Jenny's occupied this building and the one behind it in the '90s and '00s; they're now located in the Williamsville Water Mill down the street), and coffee shop (the Canadian-based chain Coffee Culture had a brief presence in the Western New York area in the early 2010s). Share has been in business since 2016 serving small plates of New American bistro-style fare. |
