English: Portrait in oils by Edward Poynter (1836-1919) in 1876 of Sir Hugh Bell, heir to the Bell Brothers industrial empire, and his daughter Gertrude Bell, aged 8, who became an explorer of Arabia and a founder of Iraq. 1876 was the year Sir Hugh remarried; it is thought the portrait was to be of the married couple, but he chose his daughter instead.
