English: Number fifty-five is Skip Bertman in uniform of Miami Beach. Born in Detroit, Michigan 1938, moved to Miami Beach in 1942. His father owned a cleaning business and briefly the Prince George Hotel. Later maitre d' at Wolfie's 21 on Collins Avenue. Skip's mother Cele opened a women's clothing store on Lincoln Road and later managed an Elizabeth Arden store in Surfside.
Skip was an award winning football and baseball player during high school, received a baseball scholarship for the University of Miami. Earned MS and BS in Physical Education. While a student worked for City of Miami Beach as head of baseball program in the Recreation department. Beginning 1964 worked at Miami Beach High as assistant baseball coach. His teams were State champs once and runners up twice. 1976 to 1984 associate head coach at University of Miami 1984 head coach of Louisiana State. LSU Tigers won NCAA title three times and named National Coach of year. 1988 pitching coach for US Olympic gold medal team.
