DescriptionSolid and liquid argon in small graduated cylinder.jpg
English: Argon ice in a graduated cylinder. The argon has been frozen by allowing a slow stream of the gas to flow into the small graduated cylinder which was immersed into a cup of liquid nitrogen. The sharp conical formation at the center of the tube is filled with liquid argon as the sample was not given sufficient time to completely freeze through. The small area inside the tube at the ~6 milliliter mark is likely a result of contamination with either liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen or water ice that has condensed into the argon (out of the air) during its transit time to the camera setup. The graduated cylinder is relatively frost free on the outside due to the very rapid time delay (<3-5 seconds) from its removal out of the liquid nitrogen bath to the time the image was taken. Auto-contrast and unsharp mask applied in photoshop. Image taken by me.
