DescriptionSouthampton Central Station - geograph.org.uk - 829328.jpg
English: Southampton Central Station Looking eastwards from the station in the 'up' direction, a train for the Bournemouth line approaching. The locomotive headcode shows this to be a train which has come from the GWR Oxford line, destined for Bournemouth West - the equivalent of today's "Cross Country" service. The locomotive is an ex-Southern Railway "West Country" class No. 34041 "Wilton". Built at Brighton in 1946, it was withdrawn in 1966 after less than 20 years in service. On the right is the old, long gone, coal fired power station which was supplied by a railway siding which crossed Western Esplanade Road.
