English: Phyllis Mark's 'Statement on Multiples.' Reverse of a flyer that pictures the artist's 'Space Being Curved,' an edition of 30, on the obverse. The flyer was prepared for Mark's 1973 one-woman exhibition at Gimpel & Weitzenhoffer Gallery, New York, NY. The statement reads as follows: “Since my sculpture is fabricated by a process that makes each work in an edition of equal quality – the first identical to the last—I realized that doing editions of my largest as well as my smallest work was a logical step to take. Whether or not a piece was to be ‘unique’ or an ‘edition’ became an intellectual and economic decision, removed from the aesthetic considerations of creating the work itself. I believe in ‘Editions’ of sculpture because they make fine art available to a larger number of people at more reasonable prices. The creative process does not end in my studio. My conceptions require personal involvement and possible changes at each stage of the fabricating process. This necessarily places a limitation on the size of individual editions.”
