DescriptionStill having fun after all these years (1171261374).jpg
Big Daddy Don Garlits. This man is a true legend and pioneer in the world of drag racing and I got his autograph.
He began his drag racing career in 1950 and retired from racing in 2003.In 71 he debuted the first rear engine dragster after blowing off a piece of his foot in the old front engine dragsters. The rear engine is still the standard today.
He was the first racer to hit 170, 180, 200, 240, 250,270 mph. In his last year as a competitor he recorded his career best speed at 323.04 mph.
When I saw him at the track you can still see the passion he has for drag cars. People would ask him to sign their cars and he would talk with them for a few minutes about the car and what they did. In his career there isn't much you can do with a car that he has not seen or pioneered himself. But he still gave a couple of fans a few minutes to hear about their car set up.
