Les rayons parallèles, venant de l'« infini », sont focalisés par un miroir parabolique ou sphérique. Puis, ils sont déviés sur le côté par un miroir plan, orienté à 45° par rapport à l'axe optique du télescope.


Principle of a Newton telescope.

The parallel beam, coming from far, far away, are focalised by a parabolic ou spherical mirror. They are then reflected by a mirror tilted by an angle of 45° compared to the axis of the main mirror.
