Summary

Description
English: The 'Cairn' at Gop Hill. This is believed to be the second largest man-made mound in Britain. It has been dated as 4000-3000 B.C. Although possibly a burial mound, there were no bodies or chambers found when excavated. It may have been a hill fort. There is speculation that it is linked to Boudica's last battle, but that may just be fantasy. In the 17th century, it was used as a beacon.
