English: The Edith Cavell memorial in St. Martins Place Situated opposite the National Portrait Gallery, this is one of many tributes to Edith Cavell around the world. She was a nurse in World War 1 who was executed by firing squad at the age of 49. Beneath her statue is the inscription "Edith Cavell Brussels Dawn October 12th 1915 Patriotism is not Enough I must have no Hatred or Bitterness for Anyone".
