Troops of the 1st Battalion, The King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment), 12th Brigade, 4th Division, in the front trench at St. Marguerite, 22nd September 1914. The officer is Second Lieutenant R. C. Matthews, probably the Officer Commanding "A" Company.
