Description

The Journey to the West (西遊記). Written by Wu Chengen (吳承恩), Ming dynasty (1368-1644).

The book was printed by the Shidetang Hall of Jinling (金陵世德堂) in 1592. It features cross-page illustrations with descriptive captions. It is considered the earliest version of The Journey to the West. There are four copies in existence. One of them is housed in the National Palace Museum.

The two pages have a cross-page illustration depicting Sun Wukong (孫悟空) and Princess Iron Fan (鐵扇公主) at the Plantain Cave (芭蕉洞).
