Storrs School, who was appointedagriculturist and vice-director of the station. Dr. H. W. Conn, pro-fessor of biology in Wesleyan University, was soon invited to under-take, on behalf of the station, biological investigations in his laboratoryat Wesleyan University. Mr. C. D. Woods, who had previouslybeen associated with Professor Atwater at Wesleyan University, wasmade chemist of the station, canwing on the work at Middletown.During the years 1888-1891 Professor Atwater was Director of theOffice of Experiment Stations, and hence was necessarily absent fromMiddletown most of the time. At this time Mr. Woods was madevice-director and so continued until 1896, when he was called to theprofessorship of agriculture and the directorship of the station ofthe Maine State College, now the University of Maine, at Orono.Since that time, Dr. F. G. Benedict has been chemist of the station,and Prof. C. S. Phelps again vice-director. U. S. Dept. of Agr., Bui. 80, Office of Expt Stations. Plate XXV.
