DescriptionThe old Cambridgeshire County Hall (geograph 2137842).jpg
English: The old Cambridgeshire County Hall The old Cambridgeshire County Hall
Just before the First World War, a new County Hall for Cambridgeshire was built in Hobson Street, a narrow and confined site very close to the city centre. I suspect that this soon proved to be a mistake, but it was not until well after the Second War that Shire Hall was built on a larger site just north of Castle Hill. This old Hall is now part of Christ's College. Through one of the balustrades can be seen part of the dome above a large room which was (I assume) the Council Chamber, but which is now used as a lecture theatre.
This photo was taken from the third floor of Sussex House, part of Sidney Sussex College and on the opposite side of Hobson Street.
