Summary

Description
English: Taiping Rebellion. 1853-55

Tian Guo Tong Bao. (Heavenly Kingdom circulating treasure). Hartill 23.1

Towards the end of the Qing Dynasty, many rebellion sprang out to overthrow the incumbent dynasty. The most devastating of which was the Taiping Rebellion.

This coin was the first and most short-lived of the Taiping Rebellion coins issued by the rebel armies under Hong Xiuquan, a quasi-Christian leader who believed himself to be a brother of Jesus. This variant was quickly surpassed by many later and more common Taiping coins. It is also one of the 50 classic precious coins in Chinese numismatics (excluding the silver dragons and modern issues).
