DescriptionTubular passage (Skyline Caverns, Front Royal, Virginia, USA) (28378186022).jpg
Tubular passage in a cave in Virginia, USA.
Skyline Caverns is developed in structurally tilted carbonates (mixed dolostones and limestones) of the Rockdale Run Formation (Beekmantown Group, Lower Ordovician).
Cave passages vary significantly in their size, sinuousity, and cross-section shape. Passages that are wider than they are tall are called tubular passages - they form in the phreatic zone (at & below the water table).
Locality: Skyline Caverns, Front Royal, central Warren County, northern Virginia, USA
