DescriptionTumco Historic Mining Town, California (15639976842).jpg
Town Tumco is a 19th century gold mining ghost town located in the Cargo Muchacho Mountains, just east of the Imperial Sand Dunes.
Originally known as Hedges in its heyday, about 400 people lived and worked at this remote and desolate canyon in the late 1800’s. By the time the town was renamed Tumco in 1910, the boom and bust of a typical mining town, with all its drama and adventure, was over.
Visitors can explore the crumbling foundations of the company saloon. hospital, and cemetery.
