English: USS The Sullivans bids farewell to CSG21Pictured: From front to back are HMS Queen Elizabeth, HMS Defender, HMS Richmond, HNLMS Evertsen, RFA Tidespring and RFA Fort Victoria in formation ready to wave off USS The Sullivans.After more than 13 months working with the United Kingdom's Carrier Strike Group 21, including nearly eight months underway dating back to last summer's Group Exercise, USS The Sullivans (DDG-68) has detached from the strike group and began her transit home on October 19, 2021.Over the last seven months together, The Sullivans and HMS Queen Elizabeth have ships crossed over 40,000 nautical miles of Open Ocean in some of the world's most contested waters, strengthening the two countries' special relationship.“USS The Sullivans have been tremendous representatives of the United States during Carrier Strike Group 21,” said Brig. Gen. Simon Doran, US Senior National Representative to the UK CSG. “From the North Sea to the South China Sea, from supporting combat operations in Operation Inherent Resolve to more than a dozen PASSEX’s with foreign Navies, the Sailors on The Sullivans embodied their ship's namesake – We Stick Together.”HMS Queen Elizabeth is the deployed flag ship for Carrier Strike Group 21(CSG21). CSG21 will see the ship along with the Strike Group work with over 40 countries from around the world. The Strike Group will operate and exercise with other Countries Navies and Air Forces during the 7-month deployment.The Strike Group includes ships from the United States Navy, The Dutch Navy, and Marines from the US Marine Corps. As well as UK Frigates, Destroyers two RFA supply ships and air assets from 617 Sqn, 820 NAS, 815 NAS and 845 NAS. This will be the largest deployment of Fifth Generation Fighter Jets in history. |
