English: The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Leyte (CV-32) at Yokosuka, Japan, in 1950-1951. Besides a short trip in 1946, Leyte only operated once in the Pacific. She returned to Norfolk, Virginia (USA), from the Mediterranean Sea on 24 August 1950, and after two weeks of preparation, departed on 6 September to join Task Force 77 (TF 77) off Korea via the Panama Canal. Leyte arrived at U.S. Fleet Activities in Yokosuka, Japan, on 3 October 1950 and made final preparations for combat operations until 6 October. From 10 October – 19 January 1951, the ship and her aircraft spent 92 days at sea and flew 3,933 sorties against North Korean forces. Leyte was again at Yokosuka from 22-26 January 1951, before returning to Norfolk for overhaul on 25 February 1951.[1]
