Summary

Description Eagle and Shield, a gilded wood sculpture located over the dais in the Old Senate Chamber in the United States Capitol. Its exact origins are unknown, but is thought to date from around 1834. The sculpture was used in the Senate chamber until 1859, when the Senate moved to its new chamber and the Supreme Court took over the room. It was replaced when the Old Senate Chamber was restored. The sculpture is 53.5 inches (135.9 cm) high, 72 inches (182.9 cm) wide, and 23 inches (58.4 cm) deep.
