Photo of Union Pacific's steam locomotive 924. This locomotive was built by Taunton (number 437) in July 1868, and entered the roster as number 98. It was re-numbered as 945 in 1880, and once again was renumbered as 1220 in 1915. The locomotive left service in 1923.
Date
There is a 3-22 date on the back, but I believe the photo was issued more recently than that--likely circa late 1930s. The film Union Pacific premiered in 1939; this type of locomotive was used during the timeframe the motion picture was set in. UP may have issued the photo because of the publicity surrounding the movie.
