The Reverend W.N.Panapa, Bishop of Aotearoa, dedicating a memorial stone to the 37 followers of Te Kooti Arikirangi Te Turuki killed in the battle at Te Pōrere, 4 October 1869. The stone marks the spot where they are buried in a corner of the main (upper) redoubt. The stone was unveiled on 18 February 1961.
