| Description |
English: Photo taken in the late 1920s to the early 1930s. Nikolai Ivanovich Van (Wang) led the Chinese NKVD regiments and served in a few missions in Operation Maki Mirage for Soviet intelligence (in Manchuria and China). He lead NKVD regiments to deport the Chinese from the RFE. From my one interview with a survivor of the Chinese deportation (she). She stated 7,000 Chinese were deported to Kazakhstan, primarily Almaty and its environs from the Russian Far East. From these 7,000, around 3,000 Chinese or Soviet Chinese were deported out of the USSR to Xinjiang. The Soviets kept the remaining 4,000 or so "Soviet Chinese" for their own practical purposes as translators and other such work especially for the NKVD and GRU. |
