English: The election results of the 2016 Vermont Republican presidential primaries, held on March 1, 2016, by municipal district. The election was a close contest between primaries frontruneer Businessman Donald Trump and Governor of Ohio John Kasich; the two had finished first and second place respectively in neighboring New Hampshire in that state's primaries the previous month. Trump's popularity with non-establishment, grassroots conservative voters and Kasich's popularity with traditional republican party faithfuls who are otherwise dissatisfied with Trump, can be shown clearly in this results map, which shows Trump dominating among rural, outer suburban areas and southern cities such as Rutland, while Kasich winning the support of voters in the state's two biggest cities, Burlington and Montpelier. Trump went on to narrowly clinch the popular vote statewide, and due to the state's winner-take-most rules, Trump walked out of Vermont with a majority of the state's 16 delegates. Marco Rubio managed to win some constituencies in Vermont, after a notably poor performance in New Hampshire a month earlier. Both Ted Cruz and Ben Carson, the other major contenders left in the race, failed to win a single municipality in Vermont. According to the Associated Press, areas which had a low voter registration were not reported from; these account for 9 municipalities on the map that are left blank.
