Description
English: Warren Goodale (1826–1897). A nephew of Hawaiian missionary Lucy Goodale Thurston, he settled in the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1847 where he worked as a land surveyor and teacher at Royal School. He was appointed marshal and collector-general of customs by Kamehameha III. During the American Civil War, he enlisted in the Union Army where he eventually achieved the rank of lieutenant general with the 114th United States Colored Infantry. After leaving the army, Goodale returned to Honolulu, Hawaii where he served as manager of several sugar plantations. He also was appointed as head of the Hawaiian Mission Children's Society and was very active in the Historical Society of Honolulu.
