Summary
editThe little girl who is seen here holding her doll is standing in the front yard of her parents' home at 95 Broadway in Wehrum, PA. This photograph was probably taken in late 1923 or early 1924. (See House #95 on the Wehrum Map.) The homes seen in the background were on the east side of Wehrum's Broadway -- from right to left, their addresses were: 94 Broadway, 98 Broadway, 100 Broadway, and 102 Broadway. The girl, Fern Helsel, was born at her parents' home in Wehrum in late 1921. When the Wehrum mine closed in 1929 she and her family moved to Akron, Ohio, where she graduated from high school, attended college, married, and had two daughters. She died in Akron in 1986 and is buried there.
