This portrait was created in about 1775. It was created before copyrights existed and the artist has been dead for over 200 years. It has been used in multiple places with attribution to the Davidson College archives in Davidson, North Carolina. The portrait is owned by Davidson College and presumably can be used with attribution to the Davidson College archives.

Note that this image is of William Lee Davidson’s youngest son who bears the same name and who donated the land on which Davidson College was built. This image is not the General but has been attributed to him quite often. I am a descendant of Brigadier General William Lee Davidson and have studied my family’s history extensively. No image of Brig. General William Lee Davidson exists. Please correct the posting of this image.

Sourcing for this image is needed to further clarify which William Lee Davidson is depicted in the portrait. G. Moore (talk) 23:30, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
