This photograph, taken while standing in the inner gate, shows a view of the courtyard between inner and outer gate and the wooden guardhouse built on top of the outer gate.

The inner gate is build in line with the city wall. The courtyard protrudes from the city wall so that the outer gate is outside of the wall though attached to it with the wall surrounding the courtyard.
