Hahaha! When me and my friends were camping, we did the exact same thing. We were at a portage between two lakes, and we saw that the map showed a little creek going between them. There was a beaver dam blocking it, but we thought "No problem, just one beaver dam." It turned out that there were FIVE successive dams (all of which we negotiated), but after the last one the creek completely petered out. We ended up having to bushwack to the portage trail with one of our canoes, and paddle the other one back up the creek, and over the five beaver dams. Damn.
