we were fortunate to be able to raise our kids in southern indiana. blue tailed skinks were common. we lived on the south end of monroe reservior on a dead end road. we had a faucet that dripped all of the time. the skinks lived near by under the house. the kids would catch them and the tails would fall off in their hands. the skinks would runaway but when you saw it later its tail would be in the process of growing back.
