Black and White

Why is this in black-and-white if it's from 2002? I think the black-and-white creates a sort of implication that this is an old photo (even though the caption and obvious details like the jet and skyline give away that it is 2002) and doesn't provide as much information as a color photo does. I feel like black-and-white is an artistic effect that doesn't really belong here.
