- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of a fair use image as a replaceable image. Please do not modify it.
The result was to delete the image. This is a very straight-forward case. What this image here is showing is mainly the type of camera, which can be replaced by a free alternative. Just like we don't use non-free images of living people where free alternatives can be found at the moment, they are not used because it is entirely possible for a freely licensed image to be created. Apply those rules to this image, and the result is the same. There is no need to suddenly use a non-free image just because the director is in the shot. — ξxplicit 00:34, 2 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
If there can be a free use image for the filming section...by all means I would use it. But I haven't found a decent one on Flickr or anywhere yet that can pass the free use rationale. If user Perfect Future Sunrise help on finding this fair use image then I would be grateful. :) Jhenderson 777 23:08, 29 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Just as the image File:Ridley Scott Prometheus Set.jpg depicts a special circumstance of director Ridley Scott, the image in question at File:Marcwebbdirector.jpg specificaly depicts Marc Webb performing a special circumstance duty on his film The Amazing Spider-Man (2012 film). My own searches have determined a free image depiction of this circumstance is not available. The discussion then becomes, can words replace the encyclopedic information offered by the image in a manner beneficial to the reader? While the marked-as-historical essay Wikipedia:Publicity photos attempts to deal with such images released by organizations with an intention that they be distributed and used... it is not policy, and was only an attempt to clarify that situation. The image does appear to be a constructive one for that article, and lends itself to a reader's understanding of the topic in a manner that words could not. What would be required under Wikipedia:Non-free content policy and Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria, is a detailed non-free use rationale. Soon to be Now added.
