Dear Mark

Like many others I sympethise with you, especially because only 1 second could have prevented your problem. A friend of mine has suggested that I contact you and tell you about my experiences after loosing my left eye. I noticed, that when I closed my right eye, I had exactly the same vision that you had, namely looking through a toilet roll. I went to a specialist who diagnosed a melonoma and my eye was removed. that was 16 years ago. I now have a glass eye which was done so well that no one would know unless I tell them. To adjust was initially very tough, because nothing quite looked as good as it did with 2 eyes and also because I lost my job as a marine pilot, a job that I did for 30 years and a job that I thoroughly enjoyed. I was then moved to an office job which was not exactly my cup tea. All I can say is, that after 3 month I started enjoying my office job. I also started doing all the things that I had been doing before, like playing golf, driving a 4x4 through the Richtersfeld and to the north of Namibia, doing some woodwork, rebuilding a Landrover, watching Cricket etc. What I want to say is, that my right eye has made incredible adjustments and today I don't know that I have lost an eye exept in the morning when I take it out to clean it. I am sure that, with todays technology, something can be done to repair at least some of the damage. My very best wishes are with you.

Regards
