Martin recorded the album following the sessions for the Beatles' 1966 LP Revolver.[3] The album is themed around Beatles songs that are titled after or refer to young women,[3] although some of the tracks depart from this concept.[4] Author Robert Rodriguez comments that the inclusion of "Yellow Submarine" "remains unexplained" and the record's title is challenged further by the presence of vocals on "Eleanor Rigby".[3] The album was issued on CD in 1994 by One Way Records.
