Help:Wikipedia development environmentWikipedia:Source editor – Right now Wikipedia:Source editor is a redirect to Help:Introduction to editing with Wiki Markup/1. I wanted to have a complement to Wikipedia:VisualEditor, and I was about to start writing a new information page, when I noticed that Help:Wikipedia development environment (redirect from Help:Wikitext editor) exists. I haven't encountered people calling the source editor a "Wikipedia development environment" before.

I propose to move Help:Wikipedia development environment to Wikipedia:Source editor. The corresponding wording in the lede should be changed to call the subject of the page "source editor". —andrybak (talk) 10:14, 5 July 2026 (UTC)  Relisting.  This is not actually a relist. The opening statement was directly moved over from the technical requests page, with the signature and timestamp intact, which causes RMCD bot to catalogue the RM as if it was opened over two weeks ago, and relisting solves that.Maltazarianparleyinvestigate 20:35, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

For reference: What links to "Wikipedia:Source editor" in all namespaces except "User talk" – two interesting templates link to the proposed target name. Template:Uw-bareurl, which is already substituted on many user pages (link count), and Template:VE documentation, which is transcluded on several help pages. —andrybak (talk) 19:01, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Notified: Wikipedia talk:Help Project, Help talk:Introduction. —andrybak (talk) 10:31, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Per discussion at WP:RM/TR, I rewrote this section using Template:Requested move. —andrybak (talk) 19:01, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Andrybak Is the namespace change intentional? Right now the page is in the Help namespace and your move puts it in the Wikipedia namespace. If this is not intended you should edit the requested move to target Help:Source editor instead. –Maltazarianparleyinvestigate 20:49, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, the move to the project namespace is intentional. The intention is to convert the page into an information page about the source editor. Right now it is bad at being a how-to page in the Help namespace – the only how-to are a couple of examples of wikitext and a mention that the buttons "Show preview" and "Show changes" can be used.
The VisualEditor has the aforementioned Wikipedia:VisualEditor and Help:VisualEditor. The corresponding Help:Source editor redirects to Help:Introduction to editing with Wiki Markup/1, which is appropriate. —andrybak (talk) 20:56, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
